About Me and My Practice

I have been working as a psychotherapist for 18 years. I mainly see individuals although I do work with couples. I am also a trainer for the Gestalt Institute of New Zealand. This is a NZQA-registered body for the training of psychotherapists.

I supervise individuals and groups in all areas of work that involve understanding interpersonal dynamics. I consider the purpose of psychotherapy to be enabling the person to identify those factors in their life that are not working well for them, so that they can choose healthier options to achieve the kind of life they want to live.

The here and now is vitally important, and so too is understanding why we react to people and situations the way we do. This often involves understanding where we have come from and the influences of our past.

I see Gestalt psychotherapy as being a holistic approach to working with people. All aspects of who we are - physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual - are core aspects of self. I choose to be aware of all these aspects as much as I can in my work and life.
