Homeopathy is essentially a natural healing process; remedies are used to assist the patient to regain health by stimulating the body's natural healing forces. It concentrates on treating the patient, rather than the disease (holism).
Homeopathy is founded on two principles that have occurred regularly throughout the history of medicine, both in eastern and western worlds: ‘like cures like’ and ‘the minimum dose’.
The first principle of ‘like cures like’ assumes that the body knows what it is doing and that symptoms are the body’s way of taking action to overcome illness. This healing response, or ‘vital response’, is automatic in living organisms. The similar medicine acts as a stimulus to the natural vital response, giving it the information it needs to complete its healing work.
The second principle, that only ‘the minimum dose’ should be employed, is based upon the understanding that the stimulus of the medicine works from within the vitality and is not imposed from the outside. Only enough is administered to initiate the healing process, which then carries on, driven by its own internal healing mission.
When asking the patient to describe symptoms, the homeopath wants to go beyond such blanket terms as merely "rheumatism" or "asthma" and discover how that particular problem presents in you as an individual in your own unique response to the disease process. Family history, past and present illness, emotional difficulties, individual sensitivities, and many other aspects of the patient are discussed. The homeopath assists the patient to understand how seemingly separate symptoms can be related. The homeopath then chooses a homeopathic medicine that matches as closely as possible the symptoms.
Homeopathic remedies are highly effective, extremely cost-effective, and non-habit forming. They are made from plants, animal products, minerals, and (occasionally) conventional drugs or disease matter. Homoeopathic remedies are not tested on animals.
Homeopathy is not herbalism or naturopathy. While we do use many of the same natural substances, homeopathic medicines are uniquely different from naturopathic products because of the way they are made.
The education of classical homeopaths is in-depth, rigorous, and includes extensive clinical experience.
