Ayurvedic Herbs

Ayurveda is an ancient Indian medical practice that encompasses a range of treatments - including herbal medicine, changes in diet, meditation, massage, and yoga - to maintain or restore health.

According to Ayurveda, each person contains some of the universe's five basic elements: earth, air, fire, water, and ether (or space). The combination of these elements in each individual breaks down into three metabolic body types, or doshas: vata, pitta, and kapha. The theory behind Ayurveda states that sickness is caused by an imbalance in one or more of the doshas, resulting in toxicity in the body and mind. Ayurvedic treatment considers a person's unique constitution, their environmental and lifestyle influences, and the particular qualities of their disease condition.

Many Ayurvedic herbs have rejuvenative effects on the various organs and systems, and have stress-adapting and immune-enhancing effects as well. While generally less direct and potent than conventional drugs, these herbs have a more balancing effect on the body, and can be used to support and enhance conventional medical treatment. Herbal preparations can help allergies, arthritis, chronic fatigue syndrome, menstrual cramps, Parkinson's disease, and digestive disorders, including constipation and irritable bowel syndrome.
